Cloud Expo Sponsor AWS Adds Invalidation Feature to CloudFront
Amazon Web Services has added a new feature to Amazon CloudFront, the AWS content delivery network. The new invalidation feature allows users to remove content from Amazon CloudFront edge locations via an API call. This API call removes copies of a file from all Amazon CloudFront edge locations at any time, regardless of the expiration date set on the file. If users need to remove multiple files at once, they may send a list of files in an XML document.
Voltaire Poses Challenge for Cisco
Voltaire has come out with a new top-of-rack switch, a low-latency, high-density 10 GbE switch for virtualization and scaling cloud networks that will be a challenge for Cisco since Cisco doesn?t have anything like it and Voltaire?s pricing the thing aggressively to capitalize on its advantage. It?s not just an issue for Cisco?s switch business. Voltaire OEMs to Cisco?s server rivals, HP and IBM, so if the dingus is as jazzy as Voltaire says it is, it could create a speed bump for Cisco?s data center ambitions. It?s a 48-port widget in a little 1U device, providing non-blocking switching throughput of 960 Gbps at the industry?s lowest power consumption ? 6.3 watts/port.

Cloud Computing: 3PAR Knocked Down to HP for $33 a Share
Dell pulled out of the race to acquire 3PAR Thursday morning after HP upped its $30-a-share bid of last Friday to $33 a share, pushing 3PAR's valuation past $2 billion to roughly $2.1 billion. 3PAR sent out a statement Thursday morning saying that Dell went to $32 before the three-day clock ran out on it Wednesday at midnight, and HP countered Thursday morning with $33. The 3PAR board has recognized HP's revised $33 bid as the "superior proposal" and said it told Dell it would go with HP unless Dell put more money on the table under the perpetual matching rights clause in their original deal.
Cloud Computing: Price for 3PAR Goes to $33 a Share
HP has upped its $30-a-share bid for 3PAR last Friday to $33 a share, pushing 3PAR?s valuation past $2 billion to about $2.1 billion. 3PAR sent out a statement Thursday morning saying that Dell went to $32 before the three-day clock ran out on it Wednesday at midnight, and HP countered with $33. The 3PAR board has recognized HP?s revised $33 bid as the ?superior proposal? and says it has again told Dell it?ll go with HP unless Dell puts more money on the table. Dell has three business days to better HP?s bid under the perpetual matching rights clause in their original deal.
Cloud Security - The Question of API Keys
I had a really good discussion with Kaitlin Brunsden from EbizQ on the topic of Cloud Security in general, and API Keys in particular. All too often, CISOs and IT managers do not realize that if their organization is using Amazon Web Services (AWS), for example, then the Secret Key ID used to authenticate to AWS is often sitting on a hard drive or coded into an application. This Secret Key ID, in combination with the Access Key ID (which is readily available through traffic logs) can be used by a malicious user to provision or terminate virtual machines, to access data in Cloud-based queues or databases, or just simply to run up a large charge which will then hit the credit card linked to the API keys. Vordel can help, by protecting the API keys in the same way that our products protect keys used in other contexts (e.g. private keys for SSL).
Cloud Gateway to Google Storage
In the eyes of cloud storage service providers such as Google Storage, any On-Ramps tools, desktop clients, edge devices or appliance that can talk to Google Storage is a gateway. In the eyes of end users or IT admin, a cloud gateway refers to a central access point that does the translation of LAN based file protocol such as CIFS (Microsoft net share) to the cloud storage REST protocol. As a non Google storage user, Google storage may refer to the Gmail storage, Google Docs storage. As a Google Storage user, the Google Storage may refers to the Google Storage for Developer (which announced at Google I/O this year).
